Free Prostate Screening in the Metroplex is Available at Selected Locations
Free screening is usually provided during June, September - "Prostate Cancer Awareness Month" - and early October. So far this year, close to 900 men were screened
by hospitals connected with support groups within this coalition. All
of these screenings were comprehensive prostate cancer screenings (PSA
and DRE).
Free screenings are offered at the DadFest, Cowtown Cruisin' for a Cure and Health Fairs at Baylor/Dallas, Baylor/Plano, Medical City/Dallas and THR HEB Harris in Bedford.
The annual DadFest
(last year, the event took place At Galatyn Park in Richardson
on June 13) is supported by the North Texas Prostate Cancer
Coalition, Us TOO Presbyterian and the Urology Research & Education Foundation with the proceeds going to the Foundation. One of the largest event is the annual Cowtown Cruisin' for a Cure
carshow in Fort Worth, usually held on the third Saturday in September,
which offers free screening during the event; all proceeds generated
from this event benefit research and treatment for prostate cancer.
The 2009 8-th annual Cowtown Cruisin' for a Cure was scheduled for September 19. This screening event is supported by the
North Texas Prostate Cancer Coalition, Man to Man (ACS), Fort Worth and
Texas Health, Harris Hospital. During this year's event, over 400 cars
were registered; more importantly, over 170 men (a slight increase from last year) took advantage of the
free prostate screening.
