"Vitamin D is certainly the supplement/vitamin of the past year. While no one is certain what the "optimal" serum level should be, most think that 40 is a good target (and 50 may be gaining ground as the new target). Some people have advocated even higher levels. The problem with levels getting much higher is that no one really knows if there are adverse effects with time." Matthew Shuford, MD Note from the LabCorp: "Recent studies consider the lower limit of 32.0 ng/mL to be a threshold for optimal health". LabCorp also notes that the study uses 32-100 as the "Reference Interval", or normal range.
